UTAH JUNIPER
Juniperus osteosperma
Utah Juniper grows slowly, becoming craggier and more contorted with
age. Grows 20 feet high by 10 feet wide. American Indians used the
bark for cordage, sandals, woven bags, thatching, and matting. They
also ate the berries fresh or in cakes. Birds and small mammals also
consume quantities of juniper berries.
Berries are often
used in jewelry.
Hint: Soak them first before trying to punch a hole through them.
